As one of the leading providers of anaesthesia products and services in the UK, we are looking for a Junior Technical / Procedure Writer to join our expanding publications team. The successful candidate will write and produce technical procedures and literature, including user manuals (IFU), datasheets for clinician users, service manuals, datasheets for service personnel and production build procedures.

Main tasks
- Produce instructions for use (IFU) in a manner appropriate for a medical device manufacturer.
- Ensure that text is clear and unambiguous to ensure that (a) our products are used safely, and (b) documents can be translated without loss of original meaning.
- Produce, or proof-read and edit, texts and technical data.
- Prepare briefs for pictures / illustrations; for freelance technical illustrators or internal Penlon engineers.
- Desk top publishing software to produce page layouts and complete manuals for print or electronic delivery.
- Research and gather product information through liaison with staff at all levels, in order to produce correct and complete manuals.
- Work closely with New Product Development, Production Engineering, Sales, Service, and Regulatory departments on content of all technical literature.
- Maintain and update all technical documentation in response to engineering change, product enhancements, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure sign-off of all literature and artworks that require compliance with regulatory obligations.
- Prepare files for external print runs. Liaise with print companies.
Check proof copies supplied by the print company before confirming a print run.
- Arrange translations of technical literature as required.
Check the translated document and adjust page layouts if necessary when texts have expanded or shrunk.
- Provide an in-house print/media service for the production of short-run technical and sales literature, and stationery.
Qualifications preferred
- Strong in written English and vocabulary – English language GCSE Grade 7.
- GCSE / BTEC Design and Technology.
- Understanding of page layout and image manipulation using desktop publishing software – e.g. Adobe Creative Suite.
- Understanding on how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
- Basic understanding of how mechanical and electronic products work.
Would be nice
- Experience of use of CAD software for image / illustration creation.
- Practical experience of servicing or repairing mechanical and electrical products, e.g. bicycle, motor bike, car, home appliances, computers.
