Mary Ryan, Director of Innovation, Technology, and Regulatory Affairs at Penlon, has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Women Leaders in Healthcare Technology 2024 by the prestigious publication The Healthcare Technology Report. This international accolade underscores Mary’s contributions to medical technology innovation and regulatory excellence.
In March, Mary travelled to the Cornell Club in Manhattan, New York, to receive the distinguished award and enjoy a wonderful celebration, joining an elite group of global healthcare leaders driving transformation in the industry. This recognition is the latest in a series of prestigious awards acknowledging her exceptional career. In under two years, she has also received the Thames Valley Special Recognition Award and a British Lifetime Achievement Award, further cementing her reputation as a trailblazer in the field.
Upon receiving the award, Mary expressed her deep gratitude and humility, acknowledging the dedicated team at Penlon that supports her vision.
With over 30 years of experience in healthcare technology, Mary has played a pivotal role in advancing medical device design, regulatory affairs, and global market access. Her leadership was instrumental in Penlon’s rapid response to the UK government’s urgent call to design, manufacture and CE mark 11,683 ESO2 ventilators for the NHS during the pandemic — a defining moment that showcased her ability to lead innovation under immense pressure.
Beyond her corporate role, Mary has consulted for Government Ministries of Health, contributed to vocational education programs, and developed certification frameworks that have strengthened regulatory standards worldwide. Her work continues to bridge the gap between cutting-edge innovation and stringent compliance, ensuring that medical technology serves patients safely and effectively on a global scale.
This latest accolade from The Healthcare Technology Report highlights not only her achievements but underscores the growing recognition of female leaders in a historically male-dominated industry. Her passion, dedication, and leadership continue to inspire the next generation of healthcare technology professionals, reinforcing the crucial role of innovation in improving patient care.
Congratulations to Mary Ryan on this well-deserved international recognition!
