Penlon Limited has committed to an ambitious target to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2045.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2022
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
The inventory work and reporting were carried out per the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and represent a faithful, true, and fair account of Penlon Limited’s GHG emissions from the available data. An independent auditor has verified this data.
Baseline year emissions:
EMISSIONSTOTAL (tCO2e)
Scope 1744.76
Scope 20
100% of the electricity used by Penlon Ltd throughout the period for which emissions are calculated was generated from renewable sources, and a certificate from supplier United Gas & Power has been provided to confirm this.
Scope 3
Included categories: Upstream transportation distribution
Waste generated in operations
Business travel
Employee commuting
Downstream transportation and distribution
769.63
Total Emissions1514.39

Emissions reduction targets

We have had no previous emissions reduction commitment. In order to continue our progress toward achieving Net Zero, we plan to halve our greenhouse gas emissions to 760 tCO2e before 2030. Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:

In the future, we hope to implement further measures such as:

Declaration and Sign Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors.

Sustainability

We are proud to be recognised by the UK SME Climate Hub as part of the United Nations Race to Zero campaign, and join governments, businesses, cities, regions, and universities around the world that share the same mission.

The SME Climate Hub is an initiative of the We Mean Business Coalition, the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, the United Nations Race to Zero campaign and the International Chamber of Commerce. This partnership is an exercise in radical collaboration that opens the doors for SMEs to join the United Nations Race to Zero campaign — an international campaign that brings together an unprecedented coalition of real economy actors and 120 governments committed to achieve net-zero emissions by no later than 2050. In collaboration with the Net Zero team at Oxford University, the SME Climate Hub provides tools and resources to enable SMEs to make a climate commitment, take action and measure their progress. It is our belief that climate action is everyone’s business.

Recognising that climate change poses a threat to the economy, nature and society-at-large, our company commits to take action immediately in order to:

  1. Halve our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030
  2. Achieve net zero emissions before 2045
  3. Disclose our progress on a yearly basis

Our target is aligned with what the latest climate science deems necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement — limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above preindustrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C, with no or low overshoot.

It is also in line with the NHS and UK Government’s commitment to reaching net-zero emissions by 2045.

Guru Krishnamoorthy, Penlon’s CEO said:

The link between climate health and human health is becoming ever more inextricable. For us at Penlon, delivering on our mission to develop world-renowned medical devices sustainably is a core responsibility.

We pride ourselves on our ability to provide the best to all our stakeholders. Our customers, our people and the planet we live in are key stakeholders in our business. That is why we are very proud to be committing to this journey to Net-Zero.
